Since Pixel Quest! has dropped on Roblox and a lot of new players will be jumping in blind, I figured I’d make a proper write-up guide. I was part of the beta test, and let me tell you — this game does not hold your hand.
It’s fun, grindy, and really punishing if you don’t know what you’re doing. So before you lose all your loot to the first boss you find, here’s everything you should know to get started safely and progress faster.
The Overworld – Your First Few Minutes
When you spawn into the overworld for the first time, don’t overthink it — your goal is to get your bearings, kill mobs, and gather loot. Every new player starts the same way: low stats, weak gear, and a big open world that feels a bit overwhelming at first. The early mobs aren’t dangerous, but they’re important because they drop basic weapons and gear that you’ll use to handle stronger enemies later on. Think of this as your “tutorial grind” without the actual tutorial.
After farming for a bit, you’ll probably notice boss icons or other players running toward big fights. That’s because bosses are the key to progression. Every boss in the overworld, when defeated, drops a chest and also opens a portal to a dungeon. These dungeons are where you get higher-tier loot and start scaling up your damage and defense. Treat bosses as your first real milestone.
Finding Bosses Quickly
The overworld is huge, and running across it on foot is honestly painful. There’s a way to skip the walking entirely, but a lot of new players miss it. If you look at the top-right corner of your screen, you’ll see your map. Open it and zoom all the way out. You’ll notice a bunch of yellow dots — these represent other players.
Here’s the trick: if a player is near a boss, you can click their icon and teleport directly to them. That’s right, you don’t have to run all the way across the map like a caveman. Just look for clusters of yellow dots or anyone clearly camping a boss location. You’ll save tons of time, especially when farming world bosses that spawn far apart.
Quick Tip: If you’re unsure which dot to teleport to, pick the ones furthest away from spawn — most boss fights happen further out since the mobs get progressively harder.
Play With Others — Don’t Go Solo
This game punishes solo players more than you might expect. Early fights are fine alone, but once you start doing raids or higher-tier dungeons, going solo is basically asking to die. Bosses have massive HP pools, complex attack patterns, and no mercy.
If you don’t have friends online, it’s not a problem — you can still find allies. Just go to the Roblox Pixel Quest page, click the Servers tab, and join one that’s nearly full. Larger servers almost always have active groups farming bosses or clearing dungeons together. Joining one of those will make your life way easier.
Playing with a group isn’t just about safety; it’s also about efficiency. With more players:
- Enemies split aggro, so you’re not always being targeted.
- You clear bosses faster, which means more chests and portals.
- You can trade, share loot, and revive each other mid-dungeon.
- And honestly, it’s just more fun to survive together.
If you try to brute-force your way through solo raids, you’re going to get wiped — and in this game, dying has consequences.
Stuck in a Raid or Dungeon? Here’s What To Do
One thing that confused a lot of beta testers is how teleporting works inside dungeons. When you enter a dungeon or raid, you’re technically inside an “instance,” meaning it’s separated from the overworld. Because of that, you can only teleport to players who are inside the same dungeon. You can’t teleport out of it or to someone waiting in the overworld.
So what happens if everyone dies or leaves, and you’re trapped alone? You’ve got two options: fight your way out (good luck) or Alt + F4.
Yup, seriously — force close the game. It’s safe. You won’t lose your items or progress from doing it, and it’ll kick you back to the lobby. From there, you can rejoin a fresh run or regroup with others.
Important: The game doesn’t autosave mid-raid, but quitting like this doesn’t delete your items. The only time you actually lose stuff is when you die.
Death in Pixel Quest = Full Wipe
This is the part that scares most people, so let’s be clear:
If you die in Pixel Quest, you lose EVERYTHING.
That means:
- All items you were carrying (yes, even legendaries)
- All equipped gear
- All accessories
- Your spells
- And worst of all — your level resets to 1
When you die, you basically start over from scratch. It’s a hardcore system, and it’s meant to make every dungeon run feel tense. You’ll play more cautiously once you realize how punishing it is. That said, there is a safety net, which brings us to one of the most important mechanics in the entire game.
The Storage Chest (Your Best Friend)
In the main lobby — where you spawn when you join the game — there’s a chest on the right side, next to the gift box. That chest is your personal storage, and it’s how you protect your progress.
Before going into raids or risky dungeons, store your extra loot in that chest. You can safely deposit:
- Legendary weapons
- Accessories
- Spells
- Any high-tier drops or backup gear you’re not currently using
That way, if you die during a run, you can respawn, grab your stored gear, and at least have something to fall back on. You’ll still lose your level, but you won’t be starting completely naked.
| Scenario | Without Chest | With Chest |
|---|---|---|
| Die to boss | Lose all items + progress | Respawn, grab backups, recover quickly |
| Disconnect mid-run | Risk full loss | Stored gear is safe |
| Level reset | Start from scratch | Still have weapons and armor |
Pro Tip: Treat the chest like your insurance policy. Every time you get a valuable drop, stash one copy before doing riskier content.
Practical Tips for New Players
Here are a few general habits that’ll make your early game smoother:
- Don’t hoard everything. Keep your inventory light before running dungeons — anything not equipped should be stored.
- Avoid laggy servers. Dying from lag counts as a real death, so low ping is crucial.
- Watch for portals. When someone kills an overworld boss, a dungeon portal appears nearby. If you’re quick, you can jump in and farm with them.
- Communicate in chat. Ask where bosses are spawning — players are usually chill about sharing info.
- Upgrade your spells whenever possible. They scale well later on and make a huge difference in survival.
Quick Checklist Before a Dungeon Run
- Stored extra loot in chest
- Checked map for active boss fights
- Joined a full server with players
- Equipped backup weapons
- Tested teleport function
- Mentally prepared to Alt+F4 if stuck
If all boxes are checked, you’re ready to raid.
Pixel Quest has that old-school “die and lose everything” energy that you don’t see often on Roblox anymore. It’s risky, it’s punishing, and it rewards players who plan ahead.
Once you start understanding the teleport system, the overworld bosses, and how to protect your loot, the game gets really fun.
Just remember these three golden rules:
- Always stash your good gear.
- Never go alone.
- Don’t panic — Alt+F4 is your friend.
The full release is shaping up to be an absolute W. Good luck out there — and may your legendaries actually drop this time.
