I spent a good chunk of time playing around with the new Twisted Relics from Merlin’s quest in Fisch, and honestly, they’re way more interesting once you actually start pairing them with different rods instead of just reading the wiki.
Some enchants look horrible at first sight, but the moment you drop them on a specific rod, the entire thing behaves differently.
This guide is basically my playthrough notes after buying relics, rolling enchants, and trying them on a few rods (mainly Merlin Staff, Evil Pitchfork, Nage’s Blade, etc.).
Getting Twisted Relics in Fisch
To start any of this, go to Sunstone Island and talk to Merlin.
You’ll see a dialogue option to buy a Twisted Relic for 500k.
You can only buy one every 30 minutes, so don’t expect to mass-spam them unless you want to sit AFK with a stopwatch.
Testing the Relics — What They Actually Feel Like
Here’s everything I tested, how it behaved in practice, and what rods it seemed to work well with.
Rage
Stats:
+40% chance per fish movement to stab for +8% progression
–50% luck
–20% resilience
This one is basically cracked if you don’t care about luck. I threw Rage on Merlin Staff and the bar was jumping forward constantly. The huge luck penalty means forget about mutation farming, but if you’re strictly progression-focused, this one carries.
Feels best on:

Any rod where progression matters more than fish quality

Anything you use for quests / grinding commons
Feels awful on:

Any high-luck rod

Anything for aquariums

Mutation runs
If progression is all you need, Rage does the job.
Greed
Stats:
+50% fish size
–30% lure speed
–5% progression
This is the enchant I was actually looking for. The moment I rolled it, I tested it on the Merlin Staff and it instantly felt like I had slapped an extra Sea Overlord onto the rod.
The lure speed drop is definitely noticeable, but the size gain is massive. This makes certain rods extremely strong for money farming or size achievements.
Works extremely well on:

Merlin Staff (still solid even with the lure penalty)
Greed is basically the premium “size farmer” enchant. If your goal is money, this is the one you want.
Fractured
Stats:
+50% progression
–0.1 control
This one surprised me. On paper, it looks like a “beginner enchant” but with the Merlin Staff’s passive (that whole “control drops to 0.2 then you explode the fish” mechanic), anything that reduces control faster actually helps the rod cycle its passive quicker.
When I tested it, I was hitting the staff passive noticeably faster, which led to quicker catches overall.

Worst on:

High control rods

Anything where you rely on consistent bar stability
Not a “wow” enchant by itself, but on the Merlin Staff, it felt weirdly good.
Sandy Mutation (Pharaoh’s Curse)
Stats:
25% chance for Sandy mutation (1.2x multiplier)
This one is a mutation enchant, but honestly doesn’t feel special. Sandy doesn’t boost size, gold, or anything meaningful — it’s literally just another mutation color with a tiny multiplier.
It’s not useless, but there are way better options unless you’re specifically going for mutation achievements.
Putt
Stats:
+10% luck
Straightforward. This is basically a tiny version of an early-game luck enchant. I wouldn’t put this on a serious rod, but if you’re leveling a low-tier one or trying to force extra rolls, it’s fine.
Weak
Stats:
–10% mass (kg)
This looks terrible at first, but on the Merlin Staff it behaves strangely well.
Since Merlin Staff rewards you for the fish staying inside the bar to lower its control down to the passive threshold, lighter fish behave more “stable” and get back inside the bar faster.
You lose aquarium value, but the rod cycles smoother.
Wobbly
Stats:
–0.05 control
This is another enchant that looks like a curse until you put it on the right rod.
Merlin Staff’s entire gameplay loop revolves around dropping control as fast as possible until the rod triggers its explosion ability. Wobbly literally speeds that up.
I tested it several times and the staff’s passive kicked in noticeably quicker.
So even though it sounds bad on the wiki, it’s secretly good on the Merlin Staff and a few janky minigame-style rods.
How the Merlin Staff Behaves With These
The Merlin Staff has a very specific playstyle:

As long as the fish stays inside the bar, control keeps falling

Once it hits 0.2, the staff activates its passive

You get a +30% progression spike + a mini-explosion

Control resets

The process repeats
Because of this, anything that reduces control (Wobbly, Fractured, Weak) actually helps trigger the passive faster.
During testing:

Fractured gave me the cleanest ramp-up for the passive
-
Wobbly made the rod feel “loose” but definitely faster
-
Weak paired surprisingly well due to lighter fish behavior
-
Greed also worked fine since size had no downside on the staff
-
Rage felt unstable but still very high progression overall
I expected only Greed to be worth using, but honestly the control-based relics were better than I thought.
Stacking Twisted + Cosmic + Exalted
Here’s what I found while testing:
You CAN use Cosmic with Twisted relics
You CANNOT use Exalted relics together with Twisted relics
Twisted relics basically take the Exalted slot but leave the Cosmic slot open.
So you can actually do some cracked combos like:
Greed + Seaprince
Fractured + Starved
Rage + Cosmic Lure
Twisted relic + cosmic enchant is probably the strongest type of hybrid build right now.
Other Changes Worth Knowing
Merlin now lets you buy boosts:

Lure boost

XP boost
-
Luck boost
You can’t stack them infinitely, but you can rebuy after the cooldown.
Great for leveling rods or doing aquarium prep.
You can also now buy 50 normal enchant relics at once, which is a lifesaver when rolling basic enchants.
Should You Actually Use These?
After testing for a while, here’s the real answer:

Greed is insane for money and aquarium runs

Fractured and Wobbly are extremely good on Merlin Staff

Rage is solid for fast fishing / quest grinding
-
Weak is situationally good
-
Putt and Sandy mutation are filler enchants
If you’re mainly playing around rods that scale with size or progression, the Twisted Relics are worth the grind.
